Jon Johnson, B.C.S. served as a General Magistrate in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, Tampa, Florida since being appointed by the Hon. Manuel Menendez, Jr., former Chief Judge of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in 2001 until December, 2023. He presided in the Unified Family Court, Domestic Relations and Juvenile Dependency Divisions. He has been a Board-Certified Specialist in appellate practice by The Florida Bar since 2002. Jon Johnson, B.C.S
Prior to his judicial appointment he served as an appellate attorney and managing attorney as an Assistant Attorney General with the State of Florida Office of Attorney General. Additionally, he has served as statewide appellate counsel for the Florida Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement Division.
Former Magistrate Johnson served as a member of the Florida Supreme Court Steering Committee for Family and Children in the Courts from 2004 – 2018. He served on the faculty of Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies where he taught other magistrates and judges. He is currently serving on the Florida Supreme Court Advisory Workgroup on the Florida Supreme Court Approved Family Law Forms with a term ending June, 2025.
He has been admitted to practice before the United States Middles District, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.
He has served as a active member of the Family Law Section of The Florida Bar for more than 25 years, where he has held various offices including a term on the Executive Council.
For more than ten years, Former Magistrate Johnson actively participated with the Florida Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
Former Magistrate Johnson graduated with his bachelor’s in science in Chemistry from Syracuse University and went on to earn his juris doctor from Stetson University College of Law.
