Mr. Koch is a life-long resident of Clearwater, graduating from Clearwater High School, and later the University of Florida in 1975. Mr. Koch’s practice is limited to Marital and Family Law. Ky M. Koch
Mr. Koch is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Florida, the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the United States Supreme Court; he has also represented clients in various parts of the United States. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar, and the Clearwater Bar Association.
Mr. Koch received his legal degree in 1978 and has been admitted to practice in Florida since that time. In 1979, Mr. Koch was appointed an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida, a position he held in excess of three years. Mr. Koch is a past President of the Clearwater Bar Association in 1987 to 1988, previously serving that organization on its board of directors, as its treasurer and its secretary. He served as a member of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee from 1984 to 1987 and as its chairman from 1986 to 1987. Mr. Koch also served as Chair of the Second DCA Judicial Nominating Committee. In 1989, Mr. Koch was elected to the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar (the governing body of the State’s lawyers). He served three consecutive two-year terms. Mr. Koch is the past president of the Florida Council of Bar Association Presidents and is the former chairman of various Florida Bar Committees. He has served three consecutive terms as the vice-chairman of the Florida Bar’s All Bar Conference and two consecutive terms on the Executive Committee of the Florida Bar. Mr. Koch is a past chairman of the Clearwater Bar Association Marital and Family Law Committee and is the former chairman (1999-2000) of the Florida Bar Family Law Section.
He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, named “Legal Elite” and 2021’s “Lawyer of the Year in Family Law” by Florida Trend Magazine, and named annually as one of Florida’s “Super Lawyers” for 15+ years. Additionally, he has twice been named Tampa Bay’s Top Family Law Attorney by “The Best Lawyers in America.” He was recognized as one of the “Top Attorneys in Florida” by the Wall Street Journal in 2011. Mr. Koch enjoys an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Koch is a founding member and former president of the Executive Committee of the Canakaris Family Law Inn of Court. As an informative and entertaining presenter, he frequently has been invited to lecture for Continuing Legal Education programs in Florida and throughout the country. He has been an invited instructor of Domestic Relations and Litigation Practicum at Stetson University College of Law.
As an advocate for Collaborative Law, Mr. Koch is a founder and current co-chair of the Tampa Bay Collaborative Divorce Group and is recognized as a leader and innovator in the integration of Collaborative Law for Family Law matters. Throughout his years of experience, he has realized that settling cases out of court (rather than battling in court) proves to be more efficient and cost-effective for the parties involved.
Mr. Koch is committed to doing what is best for his clients and working hard to get them the best results possible without the extraordinary cost of an expensive court battle.
