Older Koch Lundy & Martino has a new career opportunity for an experienced paralegal. This commercial litigation paralegal would assist 3 full-time commercial litigation attorneys.
Responsibilities: Work as the lead paralegal splitting time with 3 full-time commercial litigation attorneys
- Draft court filings, including discovery requests, motions, notices, witness/exhibit lists, and proposed orders (among others)
- Organize, manage, bates label, index, and maintain documents exchanged during discovery
- Review and manage client documents for responsiveness and privilege.
- Prepare privilege logs and manage documents designated as privileged or confidential
- Assemble notebooks (in electronic and hard copy formats) for hearings and trial.
- Prepare and organize exhibits for use during depositions or court proceedings.
- Provide litigation support for attorneys throughout the litigation process, including trials, hearings, depositions, and other proceedings
- Effectively communicate and work with the Judicial Assistants, Clerks, and Court staff prior to and during trials and other court proceedings
- Effectively communicate and work with administrative assistants regarding case management
- Provide administrative support when needed, including assisting with client intake, scheduling, and other related tasks
- Oversee background searches and factual investigations
- Manage technology needs for mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings
- Oversee deadlines for all three litigation attorneys
- Ability to navigate court docketing systems, both federal and state
Attributes:
- 5+ years of experience working as a civil litigation paralegal preferred (commercial litigation experience a plus)
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certification preferred
- Self-motivated with the ability to work and resolve problems independently
- Ability to efficiently manage time including the ability to manage the case load for all three attorneys
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe
- Ability to work efficiently in a “near paperless” law practice and utilize electronic platforms for timekeeping, document management, filing, billing, etc.
- Familiarity with Westlaw and ability to locate and highlight legal authority cited in court filings
- Experience with attending and preparing for trials and other proceedings in Florida courts (both state and federal)
- Ability to efficiently manage discovery documents in electronic format, including and especially for document-intensive matters
- Familiarity with researching local rules and administrative orders in state and federal courts
- Working knowledge of applicable statutes and rules of civil procedure governing service of process, propounding and responding to discovery, and motion practice
